I know what it’s like to keep going while you’re still carrying something heavy.
I’m Claudia Mosquera, a bilingual Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I work with adults who are carrying a lot—navigating anxiety, grief, trauma, burnout, and the life changes that can leave you feeling overwhelmed or off balance.
Claudia Mosquera, LCSW
My storyI was born in Colombia, raised in New Jersey, and Spanish is my first language. When I was nine, my father died—suddenly and far too soon. I watched my mother build a new life in a new country while carrying her own grief. Her strength, determination, and compassion through that experience shaped who I became and continue to shape how I show up for the people I work with.
That’s where the name Empezar comes from.
It means to begin. Not to erase what happened or leave it behind, but to begin again from where you actually are.
My backgroundFor more than 13 years, I’ve worked across child welfare, community mental health, schools, long-term care, and medical settings.
These experiences have given me the opportunity to support people through some of the hardest moments of their lives and have shaped how I understand the importance of being truly seen and understood—not just for what you’re experiencing, but within the context of your life, relationships, culture, and circumstances.

How I workWarm, authentic, and collaborative.
I’ll never make you feel rushed or judged—but I’m also not here to simply nod along during our time together.
We work as partners: slowing down enough to understand what’s beneath the surface, recognizing the patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and building practical tools you can actually use in your life.
For some clients, that may include ART® or a Therapy Intensive. For others, it may look like ongoing individual therapy.
We’ll find the approach that fits your needs, goals, and readiness.
Who I work withI work with adults who are used to being the responsible one
—the person others count on, the one who keeps things moving even when they’re exhausted.
Many come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, stuck in their thoughts, emotionally worn down, or tired of always having to hold everything together. They may be navigating anxiety, grief, trauma, burnout, a major life transition, or the emotional weight of demanding careers, family responsibilities, caregiving, or chronic illness.
And for clients for whom language or culture is an important part of their experience, therapy is available in English, Spanish, Spanglish, or whatever mix feels most natural—without having to translate yourself as you go.
Why I do this workI became a therapist because I know what it feels like to keep moving forward while parts of you are still trying to catch up.
I’ve experienced the weight of grief, family expectations, cultural roles, and the pressure to keep going even when life feels hard.
I’ve also seen, in my own life and in my work with clients, how much can change when you finally have a place to slow down, make sense of what you’re carrying, and feel supported through it.
Empezar Wellness is that place—a space where you don’t have to carry everything alone, where you can better understand yourself, and where you can begin again on your own terms.
