About

I’m a native Spanish speaker, born in Colombia and raised in New Jersey. When I was nine years old, my father passed away tragically, and from that moment on, it was just my mother and me navigating life together. Watching her courageously build a new life for us in a different country—while carrying the weight of deep grief—instilled in me a profound sense of resilience, determination, and compassion. Her strength, perseverance, and unwavering work ethic have definitively and deeply shaped the woman and mother I am today.

I earned my bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of La Verne in California and went on to receive my master’s in social work from the University of North Dakota. I’m licensed as an independent clinical social worker in Florida (FL #SW19588), Georgia (GA #CSW008996), and Texas (TX #112410). Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working in various settings, including child welfare, community mental health, schools, long-term care, and medical environments.

For over a decade, I’ve been honored to walk alongside individuals on their healing journeys. That passion ultimately led me to create Empezar Wellness—a space dedicated to supporting others in rediscovering their strengths and stepping into the life they envision. I strive to bring warmth, authenticity, and a solution-focused approach to each session. My goal is to build a collaborative partnership with my clients, helping them tap into their inner resources and move confidently toward the life they desire.

Services

I offer in-person individual psychotherapy in Jacksonville, FL, and provide virtual services to adults across Florida, Georgia, and Texas. My approach as a therapist is collaborative and compassionate—centered on building solutions together rather than simply focusing on problems. I strive to create a supportive space where clients feel heard, empowered, and equipped to move forward with clarity and confidence.

I specialize in helping individuals navigate stress, burnout, and anxiety, with a focus on strengthening both personal and professional resilience. I also have extensive experience supporting people through life transitions, acculturation challenges, grief and loss, chronic and progressive illnesses, caregiver fatigue, and the emotional impact of receiving a difficult diagnosis—whether personally or for a loved one.

Approaches

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) – It’s a structured, goal-oriented type of talk therapy where I would help you learn how to analyze your thoughts and emotions, so you can see how they affect your actions. Through CBT, you can develop new coping skills and learn new thinking patterns and habits. Learn more about this approach here.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) – It’s a type of talk therapy for those who experience emotions intensely and struggle to regulate their emotions. It focuses on helping you accept the reality of your life and your behaviors, while also helping you learn how to make changes in your own life, including unhelpful behaviors. Learn more about this approach here.

Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT) – It’s a short-term goal-oriented type of talk therapy that helps you change by creating solutions rather than focusing on problems.  It focuses on the present and exploring your desires for the future to help you find practical solutions to your current problems.  Learn more about this approach here.

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) - It’s a type of talk therapy that integrates cognitive therapy with mindfulness practices to help you be present in the moment rather than in your negative thought patterns that affect your mood. Learn more about this approach here.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) – It’s a short and structured approach that focuses on identifying thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that are contributing to the symptoms of insomnia.  Learn more about this approach here.

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) – It’s unique approach to psychotherapy that uses the enormous power of eye movements to replace negative (trauma related) images in your mind with positive images of your choosing.  Learn more about this approach here.
